One of the classic, well known Islay malts Lagavulin 16 is a firm favourite with connoisseurs. Its rich, heavily peated taste is typical of the region, yet it this is something a bit different with its light, slightly dry finish. Its makers suggest pairing it with some strong, aged, blue cheeses or even using it as a base for a whisky sour (the peat smoke still stands out!) although they admit that neat or with a little water is the prefect serve. Bottled at 43% abv.
